Population-specific DRI grid

Unit Guide

Why some values use mcg and others use mg

Official DRI values are kept in the source unit used for that nutrient. Standardizing everything to one unit would make some nutrients harder to read and could hide important forms such as mcg RAE or mcg DFE.

Metric scale

1 gram (g) = 1,000 milligrams (mg). 1 milligram (mg) = 1,000 micrograms (mcg or µg).

Vitamin D label equivalent

Vitamin D is shown in micrograms as the official DRI unit, with IU in parentheses because many supplement labels still use or display IU. Conversion used: 1 mcg vitamin D = 40 IU.

Do not force IU conversions for every vitamin

Vitamin A and vitamin E have form-dependent conversions, so this app keeps their official DRI units as primary and explains forms on their detail pages.

Unit source trail: FDA Nutrition/Supplement Facts unit guidance and NIH ODS vitamin D fact sheet. Vitamin D conversion shown here uses 1 mcg = 40 IU.
